Dreaming of a slow morning with a good cup of coffee? If you are looking for coffee shops in Tanay, Rizal, you are in luck. Tucked into the foothills of the Sierra Madre, Tanay is an easy escape from Metro Manila — close enough for a day trip, yet calm enough to make you stay for the weekend.
What makes coffee here different is the setting. Most cafés sit along the winding Marikina-Infanta Highway — everyone calls it Marilaque — where the air is cooler, the road curves through the mountains, and your table might come with a sea of clouds. Below is our shortlist, grouped by the kind of trip you have in mind. Think of it as a field guide to coffee shops in Tanay, one stop at a time.
Coffee Shops in Tanay with a View
Pick these coffee shops in Tanay when the view matters as much as the coffee. Go early for sunrise, cooler air and quieter tables.
- Kape Natividad (Marilaque Highway, Tanay, Rizal): Come for the sunrise, stay for breakfast. It is known for brick-oven pizza, fresh, homey food and a serene, open-air setting.
- SINAG Kapihan (Km 68, Marilaque Highway, Sitio Hinadyungan, Tanay, Rizal): A bright, breezy stop with wide mountain views. Try the Turonggle, their triangle-shaped turon, with your coffee.
- Cafe Katerina (Marilaque Highway, Tanay, Rizal): One of the highway’s best-known stops, with a spacious dining area, Filipino comfort food and sweeping views of the Sierra Madre.
- Cafe Cecilia (Km 77, Marikina-Infanta Highway, Tanay, Rizal): Made for lingering. It shares its Km 77 grounds with Casa Cecilia Farm and Leisure Resort, so coffee can stretch into a staycation day with a pool, a playground and friendly service.
- Tagpuan Cafe and Bistro (Sitio Mayagay 1, Tanay, Rizal): A quaint, unhurried stop for a quick coffee or a full meal, with the mountain ranges right in front of you.
- Kamala Café (Marikina-Infanta Highway, Tanay, Rizal): A peaceful, cozy outdoor café serving Thai dishes alongside the coffee — a good pick for family gatherings that run long.
- Colina de Amor Garden Cafe (Sampaloc Road, Tanay, Rizal): A healing garden café made for slow afternoons and, if you time it right, a beautiful sunset. It is a romantic little detour for a coffee date.
- Kaulayaw at Cuyambay (Cuyambay Road, Tanay, Rizal): Gorgeous views, good drinks (including non-coffee options) and tasty snacks like pesto pasta and mango brûlée cake.
Hidden Gems in Town
Not every good cup hides in the mountains. Two smaller coffee shops in Tanay town are easy to miss — and well worth finding.
- Kape Saya (J.P. Rizal St., Tanay, Rizal): A café and restaurant in town with affordable coffee, satisfying Filipino food — try the tapsilog — and relaxed al fresco dining.
- Kape Serye (Sitio Mayagay 2, Tanay, Rizal): A small, friendly café in the Tanay hills with affordable coffee, kind staff and a pleasant, laid-back feel.
Coffee Shops for the Road Tripper
Finally, if you are just passing through, these stops make the easiest pit stops on a Tanay drive.
- VistaBarista Coffee & Bakeshop (Manila East Road, Tanay, Rizal): A handy stop for good coffee, cakes and a quick meal. Just note that parking is limited.
- Brewders Cafe (Marilaque Highway, Tanay, Rizal): Go at sunrise for a chance of a sea of clouds, or later in the day for cool mountain winds.
- Crosswinds Tanay Cafe (J.P. Rizal St., Tanay, Rizal): In a quieter corner of town, with good coffee, generous servings made for sharing and self-service dining. Parking is limited here, too.
That is the beauty of coffee shops in Tanay: no two stops feel the same. Whether you want a sunrise view, a quiet corner in town or a break in the middle of a road trip, there is a table waiting for you. Use this list as a starting point, then find your own favorite.
Planning Your Tanay Coffee Escape
Getting there: Tanay is easy to reach from Manila. Vans and jeepneys run to Tanay from Cubao and Shaw Boulevard, while drivers can take the scenic Marilaque Highway up through Antipolo. Many of the coffee shops in Tanay sit right along that highway, so a café crawl is easy to string together.
Good to know: Opening hours, menus and prices can change, and mountain weather turns quickly. The details here are as they were at the time of writing, so check the café’s Facebook page before a long drive — and bring a light jacket for early mornings.
Make a weekend of it, too. Coffee pairs well with Tanay’s outdoors, and two of our favorite stays are nearby: we camped among the trees at The Apiary Mountain Camp & Farm in Tanay and slowed right down at Palaya Natural Farm in Tanay, Rizal. Either one makes an easy base for a Marilaque café run.
Beyond the Coffee
Leave time for at least one of Tanay’s natural sights between cups:
- Daranak Falls: Tanay’s best-known waterfall, a 14-metre cascade in Barangay Sampaloc with a cool natural pool for a refreshing dip. The Department of Tourism’s Daranak Falls page is a good place to check before you go.
- Treasure Mountain: The sea-of-clouds viewpoint in Sitio Maysawa, Barangay Cuyambay. A word of caution, though: map listings showed it as permanently closed the last time we checked, so confirm it has reopened before making the trip.
- Other local delights: Back in town, try pastillas de leche (milk candy) or a warm bowl of champorado (chocolate rice porridge).
